The final moisture content of the yak sticks is why the chews are so hard. The natural wood smoking process is how the cheese sticks are dried down to remove excess moisture. By getting the total moisture below 14%, via the light drying temperature of smoking, enables a very stable product that will not mold. Think of this process being similar to the canning process used in the US. It’s a way to save back valuable food sources.

Yak sticks are made by a traditional cheese making process. Being an all natural process means that small changes in size and weight are expected. In fact, you want to see these kinds of changes! It’s what you expect from a hand made product. The differences in the cheese block sizes and the way it settles on the drying racks as they’re dried down by a wood rotisserie smoking process added to the look of each yak stick.

Added safety measures in our packaging process are designed to avoid common biological problems with yak sticks, like mold growth from extreme environmental temperatures from storage to store. That’s why we use a combination vacuum pack again that draws a positive pressure in the bag to remove oxygen then injections a shot of nitrogen into the bag. Removing free oxygen from package stops any and all biological growth.

Yes they are! We are the only company doing this as well! Testing for verification is NOT commonly used with other sources. We haven’t found another company or yak stick supplier that does biological testing to identify safety hazards or quality control points. The Rogue Quality Process goes above and beyond. The ability to test for safety is too easy and inexpensive not to do it!

The Rogue process goes further to monitor the real health problems, like pathogens, that can plaque any food item for pets. Rogue regularly tests for 4 different pathogens (Salmonella, Listeria, E.coli, Shigella) to create a product quality score for every batch of yak sticks.

Changes in these scores between batches signals quality markers have changed and requires additional testing to understand what has changed. Anyone who says it’s unnecessary to test or can verify they test, doesn’t have our experience in the industry to know why it’s important. Just that simple!

We know all too well the problems importing products into the US! Rogue avoids the quality and safety issues that other products and distributors drop the ball on. We put dog health before money every time!

Regular quality testing of batches is a simple process employed with an AFFCO approved lab to determine and ensure correct nutrition content. It’s not hard to do the right thing!

Every batch of Rogue’s Yak Sticks are directly sourced from a USDA inspected site in Nepal and quality tested to ensure the product was made from actual Yak milk! A wide spread and major problem with all other Non-Rogue yak stick products is they’re diluted with skim milk, or with potato starch or other known products used to cheapen products! Not to mention the biological safety aspects from unknown ingredients that are not listed on the product label! To see this, go to the Yak Stick product page to look at the Yak Stick comparison chart to see the differences.

Yes they can! Why waste money if they couldn’t? This is a digestible dog chew stick that can be digested by canines with their own digestive enzymes, so it’s very species appropriate.  Once the stick is chewed to a small size (1 inch or less), simply put it in the microwave for 44 seconds, and the piece will puff up into a tasty cheese puff that the dog can enjoy once it’s cooled down.

Every dog and dog breed is different on how fast they will eat a Yak Stick. Real time feedback from customers tell us that Rogue Yak Sticks, not other versions, last as long or longer than other popular option dog chews. We personally see 2-3 days for larger dogs and up to a week of enjoyable chewing time. The added benefit reported is that dogs play with the yak sticks in their mouth more, which drastically helps to get better cleaning of the mouth. This is a direct result of using more of their mouth surfaces that enables better cleaning effects. This collectively helps the sticks last longer while providing added nutrition all-in-one product!
